Welcome to Builders Table, a curated hackathon organised by MakeReign® ("MakeReign", "we", "our" or "us").
These Hackathon Participation Terms ("Terms") explain the conditions that apply when you apply for, are selected to participate in, or attend Builders Table.
By submitting an application, accepting an invitation to participate, or attending the Hackathon, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms.
These Terms should be read together with our:
Together, these documents govern your use of the Builders Table website and your participation in the Hackathon.

For the purposes of these Terms:
Applicant means any individual who submits an application to participate in Builders Table.
Participant means an Applicant whose application has been accepted, who has paid the participation fee and whose place has been confirmed by the Organiser.
Team means a group of up to five (5) Participants competing together in the Hackathon.
Hackathon means the Builders Table event taking place on 18–19 September 2026, including all associated activities, workshops, judging sessions and networking events.
Venue means the official event location communicated to Participants.
To apply for Builders Table, Applicants must:
Applications submitted on behalf of another person without their knowledge or consent may be rejected.
Builders Table is a curated Hackathon.
Participation is by application and invitation only.
Submitting an application expresses your interest in participating but does not guarantee a place at the Hackathon.
The application process consists of the following stages:
Applications are reviewed by the Builders Table team to curate a balanced and diverse group of participants with a range of skills, backgrounds and perspectives.
The Organiser reserves the right to accept or decline any application at its sole discretion.
The Organiser is not obliged to provide reasons for unsuccessful applications.
Applicants who are successfully selected will receive an email inviting them to participate in Builders Table.
The invitation will include:
An invitation to participate does not confirm a place at the Hackathon.
A Participant's place is only confirmed once payment has been received and verified by the Organiser.
The participation fee is:
R500 per Participant
Where a team elects to make a single payment on behalf of all team members, the total amount due will be communicated in the invitation email.
The participation fee contributes towards the planning and delivery of Builders Table and is payable by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).
For your security, MakeReign will never notify Participants of changes to its banking details by email.
If you receive any communication requesting payment to different banking details, please contact us immediately before making payment.
Registration is only confirmed once:
Only confirmed Participants may attend the Hackathon.
The Organiser reserves the right to withdraw an invitation where payment has not been received by the specified deadline.
We understand that circumstances can change.
The following cancellation policy applies to confirmed Participants.
Where a confirmed Participant chooses not to attend:
More than 30 days before the event
Participants may request a refund of the participation fee, less a reasonable administration fee.
15–30 days before the event
Participants may request a 50% refund of the participation fee.
14 days or fewer before the event
Participation fees are non-refundable.
Refund requests must be submitted in writing to info@makereign.com.
Approved refunds will be processed using the original payment method wherever reasonably possible.
If a confirmed Participant is unable to attend, they may request that their place be transferred to another eligible individual.
Transfer requests are subject to:
The Organiser reserves the right to refuse transfer requests where operationally necessary.
If Builders Table is cancelled by the Organiser for reasons other than Force Majeure, confirmed Participants may choose either:
Refunds will be processed within a reasonable period after the cancellation has been confirmed.
The Organiser shall not be liable for cancellation or postponement resulting from events beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to:
Where reasonably possible, Participants will be offered the opportunity to transfer their registration to a rescheduled event.
Applicants and Participants agree to receive communications relating to their application, selection, registration and participation in Builders Table.
These communications include:
Administrative communications relating to your participation will continue to be sent even if you choose not to receive marketing communications.
Builders Table is a collaborative event built on mutual respect, professionalism and teamwork.
By participating in the Hackathon, you agree to:
Participants remain responsible for their own decisions, actions and conduct throughout the event.
Builders Table is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome regardless of background, identity or level of experience.
The following behaviour will not be tolerated:
Participants who experience or witness inappropriate behaviour are encouraged to report it to the Organiser as soon as reasonably possible.
The Organiser may investigate reported incidents and take any action considered appropriate, including:
Serious breaches of this Code of Conduct may result in immediate removal from the Hackathon without refund.
The safety of Participants is important to us.
Participants agree to:
Participants should only take part in activities that they are physically able to undertake.
If a Participant has any medical condition, allergy or accessibility requirement that may affect their participation, they are encouraged to inform the Organiser before the event so that reasonable arrangements can be considered where practicable.
Participants are responsible for their own personal belongings throughout the Hackathon.
This includes, but is not limited to:
While reasonable security measures may be in place, the Organiser does not guarantee the security of personal property and is not responsible for any loss, theft or damage, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
Participants are encouraged to keep valuables with them at all times.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
This section limits certain legal responsibilities and affects your rights. Please read it carefully before participating.
Builders Table is an in-person event that may involve ordinary risks associated with attending conferences, workshops and collaborative technology events.

By participating in Builders Table, you acknowledge that:
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits the Organiser's liability where such liability cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Organiser will not be liable for:
Participants remain responsible for their own actions throughout the event.
If a Participant becomes ill, injured or requires emergency medical assistance during the Hackathon, the Organiser may:
Participants remain responsible for any medical costs incurred unless otherwise required by law.
Alcohol may be available at certain Builders Table functions or networking activities where permitted by the venue.
Participants who choose to consume alcohol agree to do so responsibly.
The Organiser reserves the right to refuse service, remove or disqualify any Participant whose behaviour is considered unsafe, disruptive, unlawful or inappropriate due to intoxication.
Nothing in these Terms limits the Organiser's obligations under applicable liquor licensing or health and safety legislation.
Participants are responsible for arranging any personal insurance they consider appropriate before attending Builders Table.
This may include:
The Organiser may maintain its own public liability or event insurance where appropriate; however, such insurance does not replace a Participant's responsibility to ensure they have suitable personal cover for their own circumstances.
Photography, videography and audio recordings may take place throughout Builders Table for documentation, promotional and marketing purposes.
These recordings may include Participants, Teams, presentations, demonstrations and event activities.
Participants will be asked during registration whether they consent to being photographed or recorded for promotional purposes.
Providing this consent is voluntary.
Where reasonably practicable, the Organiser will respect requests from Participants who choose not to appear in close-up promotional photography or video content.
Participants may also contact the Organiser after the event to request the removal of specific promotional content where appropriate. While every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate such requests, removal may not always be possible where content has already been published or distributed.
The Organiser retains ownership of all official event photography and recordings.
Nothing in this section transfers ownership of a Participant's project or intellectual property.
Participants agree that the Organiser may use:

This permission does not transfer ownership of any intellectual property created by Participants and does not permit the Organiser to commercially exploit a Participant's project without their separate permission.
Builders Table is a skill-based Hackathon.
Projects will be evaluated by an independent judging panel appointed by the Organiser.
Judging will be based on criteria published by the Organiser before or during the Hackathon. These criteria may include, but are not limited to:
The Organiser reserves the right to clarify or refine the judging criteria before judging commences, provided any changes are communicated to Participants.
The judges' decisions are final and binding.
No correspondence or disputes regarding judging decisions will be entered into except where required by applicable law.
Where public voting is offered, it will be used only for a separate People's Choice Award or other non-primary recognition.
Public voting will not determine the recipient of the main Builders Table prize unless expressly stated otherwise in the official competition rules.
The Organiser reserves the right to remove fraudulent, duplicate or manipulated votes.
The total prize pool for Builders Table is:

The Organiser reserves the right to substitute or amend prizes where reasonably necessary due to circumstances beyond its control.
Prizes are not transferable unless otherwise agreed by the Organiser.
Prizes may not be exchanged for alternative goods or services unless determined by the Organiser.
Participants are responsible for ensuring that any information required to facilitate prize payment is accurate and complete.
Participants are responsible for complying with any tax obligations that may arise in connection with receiving a prize.
Unless otherwise communicated before the event, cash prizes will be paid by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).
Prize payments will normally be made within 30 calendar days after:
Where a winning Team consists of multiple registered Participants, the prize will be divided equally between all registered team members unless the Team provides written instructions, signed by all registered team members, requesting an alternative distribution.
The Organiser will not become involved in disputes between Team members regarding prize allocation once payment has been made in accordance with the agreed written instructions.
Builders Table celebrates innovation and creativity.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, Participants retain ownership of all intellectual property they create during the Hackathon.
Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of a Participant's ideas, code, designs, prototypes, documentation or other intellectual property to the Organiser.
By participating, Participants grant the Organiser a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to:
This licence exists solely to promote Builders Table and the work created during the event.
The Organiser will not commercially exploit a Participant's project without obtaining additional permission where required.
Participants are responsible for ensuring that any third-party content, software, datasets or assets used in their projects comply with the relevant licence terms.
The Organiser respects your privacy and processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and other applicable laws.
Personal information collected during the application and registration process is used to:

Applicants and Participants may choose to receive future marketing communications from Builders Table and MakeReign.
Marketing communications are optional and require your consent.
You may withdraw your consent at any time by:
Choosing not to receive marketing communications will not affect important administrative emails relating to your application or participation.
The Builders Table website may contain links to third-party platforms or services used to support the Hackathon, including payment processing, analytics, customer relationship management and communications.
The Organiser is not responsible for the content, availability or privacy practices of third-party websites or services.
Participants should review the applicable terms and privacy policies of those providers before using their services.
The Organiser may make reasonable changes to:

Where practical, Participants will be notified of any material changes as soon as reasonably possible.
The Organiser may update these Terms from time to time where reasonably necessary to:
The latest version will always be published on the Builders Table website.
Where changes materially affect Participants after registration has been confirmed, reasonable notice will be provided.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
Any dispute arising from these Terms will be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts, unless applicable consumer protection legislation provides otherwise.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights that Participants may have under the Consumer Protection Act, the Protection of Personal Information Act or any other applicable legislation.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be deemed severed.
The remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
